Tips From The Pros
3 Spring Essentials – For the Hibernating Golfer
Replace Old Grips
I find myself telling people this over and over, “you need new grips”. I really can not stress the importance of this enough, it is the easiest and cheapest way to feel like you have a brand new set of clubs. Since erosion of a grip is so gradual many people do not notice the extent to which their grip is worn. A worn-out or dry-rot grip will lead to problems. This will result in less control and negative changes to the swing mainly due to grip pressure, the worse the grip the harder the pressure, followed by a tight inconsistent swing. Due yourself a favor and get a grip on spring!
Stretch
Possibly the best thing you can do for your body before and after a round of golf is stretch. It is estimated that on average people are 30% less productive through the winter months, which means you need to stretch. The great thing is that this can be done anywhere, just give yourself 5-10 minutes in the parking lot, clubhouse, bathroom, wherever you want! If you suffer from lower back pain be sure to stretch the hamstrings. Many people forget the hamstrings are directly related to lower back muscles, a good stretch with decrease strain on those muscles. Benefits of stretching include less risk for injury, more distance, and an overall more natural swing.
Warm-Up
Do not step onto the first tee this spring and make it the first swing of the season or even the day. Get to the course early and hit a few balls wherever you can just to get a feel for things. I recommend starting with half swings on short irons, this will keep you from being anxious and over-swinging. Hitting a couple solid shots before the first tee will instill some feel and confidence that you will need.
Do these 3 simple essentials and satisfaction will be guaranteed.
